St Paul’s Cathedral helps put London First

Posted on: January 20th, 2014 by chandco

Harbour & Jones Events will be working alongside St Paul’s Cathedral to host the 2014 London First London Awards next week.

The event, run by not-for-profit organisation London First, is in its second year and will take place on 23 January. It recognises people, organisations and initiatives that have helped to define the capital’s international position over the past year.

Harbour & Jones Events and St Paul’s will be creating a classic British three-course fine dining menu in the cathedral’s crypt, which will be transformed for the evening by Ash Productions.

Rosie Day, St Paul’s Cathedral corporate events manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be a part of such a fantastic London-specific awards night. The winners from last year speak for themselves; Crossrail, London 2012 Games Makers and Olympic Delivery Authority, all of which have had a huge impact on London Life.

“As a landmark London venue we understand exactly how important it is to recognise and promote London businesses and their contribution to the city, which is exactly what the London Awards do.”

On the night four awards will be introduced by Baroness Jo Valentine, chief executive of London First, including investment in London’s future, improvement to Londoners’ quality of life, champion for London and contribution to London’s cultural excellence.

Partnering with Time Out magazine, the contribution to London’s cultural excellence has been open to reader vote since December and consists of a shortlist of big names.

Among the names are London 2012’s artistic director Danny Boyle; Tamara Rojo, artistic director of the English National Ballet; and Jason Atherton, executive chef at Gordon Ramsay’s Michelin-starred Maze restaurant.

The Shard, Roundhouse, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Selfridges, Granary Square, EDF Energy London Eye, Leicester Square, National Theatre and V&A are the venues shortlisted for the accolade.

Recruiting now: Sales & events coordinator

Posted on: January 14th, 2014 by chandco

We’re recruiting for a sales and events coordinator at one of London’s most prestigious venues, 41 Portland Place.

Working within the Harbour & Jones Events collection you’ll have the opportunity to work at one of the most stylish and sought after venues in central London that was recently voted the 6th best in Event magazine’s Top 20 UK Venues.

Ideally located between tubes and close to the beautifully landscaped Regent’s Park, the venue has been attracting the eye of big brands including those in high-fashion and consumer goods. It was used to host the spring/summer collection preview for La Perla, a leading designer in luxurious lingerie, and the venue was also transformed into the House of Peroni during July and November by premium lager brand Peroni.

We’re on the lookout for a new team member that is success-driven, confident and organised, with exceptional attention to detail and a keen interest in the events industry. Previous sales experience or customer service skills are essential.

Meet the 41 Portland Place team and read more about Harbour & Jones Events.

Event 100 Club reveal party

Posted on: December 18th, 2013 by chandco

Last night our creative director Jules Heckman-Hughes was announced as the 44th most influential person in the events industry over the last year.

Attended by over 300 event professionals the team at Harbour & Jones Events, including Prince Philip House, RSA House and 41 Portland Place, headed to Batteresea Evolution for the much anticipated Event 100 Club reveal party that was hosted by Event Magazine and organised by Smart Hospitality.

Event 100 Club is a prestigious industry list that profiles some of the biggest names in events. To give an idea of just how high the caliber is, the amazingly talented Danny Boyle was number one last year owing to his opening ceremony masterpiece that was created for the 2012 London Olympics.

We’re more than proud of Jules and her truly deserved position in the list. Jules was the pioneering member of our company and the driving force behind the official launch of Harbour & Jones Events at our premiere site, the prestigious Royal Society. Since then she has helped us go from strength to strength, delivering outstanding, high quality events with her own unique and strong sense of style.

With impeccable service skills and an unrelenting eye for detail, Jules’ unequivocal standards have attracted more and more high profile clients to Harbour & Jones Events.

Congratulations Julesy!

Prince Philip House reports an astounding 150% increase in revenue

Posted on: December 13th, 2013 by chandco

Our venue Prince Philip House, located on Carlton House Terrace overlooking The Mall, has reported a 150% increase in revenue since it was launched by Prince Philip in October 2012. November represented the most successful month to date for the historic Grade I listed building, marking yet another example of how the events industry is spearheading the economy in London.

Previously relating 60% of business to daytime conferences, Prince Philip House has seen a huge increase in evening events and is now fast becoming one of London’s best fine dining destinations. It has already attracted the attention of high profile companies including Shell, BP, Rolls-Royce and Elsevier Publishing, who have regularly used it during 2013.

“Repeat business is already playing a big part for us in 2014, the Waitrose Christmas showcase will be going ahead again in July and we’re also very excited to be hosting the second installment of Prudential Ride London in August,” said Becci Thomson, Sales and Marketing Manager.

With the addition of new Head Chef Stuart Cooper, Prince Philip House has seen a significant increase in fine dining as well as establishing themselves with an impeccable reputation for private dinners. With a Michelin star background, including stints at Chez Bruce and under Herbert Berger at 1 Lombard Street, Stuart has also worked at other venues in the Harbour & Jones Events venue collection including the Royal Society. Since starting in August he has put his own stamp on the venue by introducing a bespoke 8-course taster menu that can be crafted for anything from 8 to 80 guests.

“We’re currently working on an invite-only fine dining evening in the Spring. We’ll be exclusively inviting a small number of event bookers and showcasing our taster menu but the format of the evening is completely different to anything I have worked on before!”

“Next summer we’ll also be completely refurbishing the kitchen which will give us an opportunity to introduce new equipment and cooking techniques, as well as the possibility of some molecular gastronomy elements,” added Becci.

Also home to the Royal Academy of Engineering, Prince Philip House underwent a£7 million refurbishment and was launched in October 2012 by Prince Philip himself, who is also an honorary fellow of the Academy.

RSA has rocketed to number four in this year’s poll. The venue underwent an extensive £3m refurbishment last year to position it as a technologically advanced event space.

New AV features in the Georgian townhouse include live audio and video streaming, cinema-grade projection, interactive touch walls and 7.1 surround sound.

Cutty Sark

Cutty Sark reopened in April 2012 and truly deserves its place in the Top 20. It has won four prestigious awards, been recognised by Trip Advisor as one of the world’s top 10 attractions, and is applying for a wedding license next year.

Event magazine also recently reported on our record breaking dinner on board the ship, where we catered for 500 guests in 24 hours as part of the World Travel Market.

Photos are up from the Terrence Higgins Trust Supper Club after party

Posted on: November 8th, 2013 by chandco

Graham Norton and Ben di Lisi were among the 400 guests who attended our Terrence Higgins Trust Supper Club after party at London’s One Mayfair on Wednesday night.

The annual fundraising event, in its 13th year, brings together 50 of London’s top restaurants and caterers to raise funds for the UK-based HIV and sexual health charity. Dermot O’Leary, Alan Carr and Miranda Hart supported the Supper Club by hosting their own dinner parties.

Harbour & Jones Events provided its services free of charge for the after party, which saw Supper Club guests whisked away from dinners with celebrity hosts in a fleet of taxis to the One Events venue.

In attendance was 2012 winner of BBC Two’s The Great British Bake Off John Whaite, lead singer of The Feeling Dan Gillespie Sells, and MP Ben Bradshaw.

After party tunes were provided by Danny and Ilona Rampling who were on the decks all evening with an energetic mix of club classics and mainstream pop.

500 guests in 24 hours – Cutty Sark breaks its fine dining record

Posted on: November 4th, 2013 by chandco

This week the Cutty Sark will host back-to-back fine dining events as part of the World Travel Market.

Set to be two of the most prestigious and exclusive evenings of the week, it will be the first time that any caterer has hosted consecutive dinners of this scale aboard the landmark ship.

Today Harbour & Jones Events will cater for 270 at the UKinbound Gala Dinner, which will be attended by key figures in the travel and tourism industry.

Taking place tomorrow is the prestigious WTM Ministerial Dinner for 230 guests, which is organised by Reed Exhibition and in association with UNWTO World Travel Organisation and sponsored by the Travel Channel, who will also be providing guest speakers. The exclusive evening, now in its fifth year, will host Tourism Ministers, Senior Aides, private sector industry executives from around the world, and leading global travel trade publications.

Choosing only to work with iconic London venues, World Travel Market has previously hosted events at St Paul’s Cathedral, also a part of the Harbour & Jones Events venue collection. Instantly recognisable, Cutty Sark is one of the world’s most famous ships and the fastest and greatest of her time. She stands as a glorious monument to the age of sail and to all those who lost their lives in the merchant service. Situated on the shore of the mighty River Thames the ship provides commanding views over Canary Wharf and the City of London, making it an ideal historic venue.

Taking place at Excel London from 4-7 November, World Travel Market attracts 50,000 senior executives from the travel and tourism industry who will sign deals worth more than £2 billion.

Furthermore, WTM is worth more than £160m to the London economy through the discretionary spent of its delegates.
