H&J Events and St Paul’s Cathedral launch Street Eats for events and conferences

Posted on: July 23rd, 2014 by chandco

Yesterday (Tuesday 22 July) Harbour & Jones Events teamed-up with St Paul’s Cathedral for an invite only preview of its first ever street food concept for conferences and events – Street Eats. Guests included Tamesis Dual Ltd, E2E Events, Aviation Media, essDocs and Borough Market.

Available for a September 2014 to March 2015, event bookers will have the opportunity to either have their own night market in the Cathedral’s magnificent Crypt or create an alternative daytime conference in the Wren Suite. The concept has already created large amounts of interest with a waiting list for some key dates.

The preview showcased street food stalls including Korean Yum Bun, with steamed buns filled with a choice of sticky ginger and chilli salmon, slow roast Gloucester Old Spot pork belly with spices and kimchi, as well as sliders including home cut beef burgers with stilton and caramelised onion, and burnt mackerel and caviar tartare. Chefs carved Cumbrian air-dried ham from the bone for guests while they tucked into a whole host of English cheeses, chutneys and freshly made breads.

Taking place in the Cathedral’s Wren Suite, bright hues of red, pink and orange washed the bare stone walls, complimented by matching flowers, while a live band entertained guests with upbeat twists on classic funk and pop.

The Beehive room gave guests an early taste of Christmas, with pudding dishes from St Paul’s Christmas menu including – Christmas pudding set cream with burnt sugar and brandy sauce bubbles, apple tart fine with Calvados ice cream and Caramelia chocolate with textures of clementine.

Suppliers included Lavender Green, Event Concept, Ash Productions, Velvet Living and music by Phoebe Gorry Trio.

41 Portland Place, home to the Academy of Medical Sciences, hosts pioneering Music and medicine event

Posted on: March 21st, 2014 by chandco

Last night (20th March) 41 Portland Place, part of the Harbour & Jones Events venue collection and home to the Academy of Medical Sciences, opened its doors to over 200 members of the public for the Academy’s pioneering ‘Music and medicine’ event.

Taking place as part of National Science and Engineering Week 2014, the evening showcased the unexpected links between music and health. The event explored different ways that music can be used to increase our understanding and treatment of disease by bringing together some of the sector’s most highly regarded researchers and musicians including UK beatboxing champion Ball-Zee, and the distinguished Orchestra of St John’s.

Nick Hillier, Director of Communications at the Academy of Medical Sciences, said: “It was a fantastic evening that really captured people’s imaginations. Our guests were fascinated to hear about how music can impact on health and wellbeing, and further our understanding of how the body works.

“41 Portland Place has an amazing heritage as a home for medical discussion, over 90 Nobel Laureates have spoken at events in the building and it’s great to be able to continue that.

“As a venue 41 Portland Place offers a beautiful mix of period and modern architecture, so combining a classical orchestra with a national champion beatboxer seemed the perfect fit for the building.”

Taking over the entire venue for one evening, the Grade II* listed building, which is based near Oxford Street, became a buzz of musical workshops, performances and talks. The programme included an opportunity to hear research from the Royal College of Music into the effects of music in hospitals, how leisure activities – such as listening to music – affect stress levels, and learn about the physiology of beatboxing. The audience was also treated to a very special performance by the Orchestra of St John’s, which holds pioneering musical therapy sessions with autistic children.

The venue’s ultra modern gallery was combined with its state-of-the-art Wolfson Suite to host an exhibition from renowned photographer David Smith and a drop-in film screening.

We’re recruiting for a sales and events coordinator at one of London’s most prestigious venues, 41 Portland Place.

Working within the Harbour & Jones Events collection you’ll have the opportunity to work at one of the most stylish and sought after venues in central London that was recently voted the 6th best in Event magazine’s Top 20 UK Venues.

500 guests in 24 hours – Cutty Sark breaks its fine dining record

Posted on: November 4th, 2013 by chandco

This week the Cutty Sark will host back-to-back fine dining events as part of the World Travel Market.

Set to be two of the most prestigious and exclusive evenings of the week, it will be the first time that any caterer has hosted consecutive dinners of this scale aboard the landmark ship.

Today Harbour & Jones Events will cater for 270 at the UKinbound Gala Dinner, which will be attended by key figures in the travel and tourism industry.

Taking place tomorrow is the prestigious WTM Ministerial Dinner for 230 guests, which is organised by Reed Exhibition and in association with UNWTO World Travel Organisation and sponsored by the Travel Channel, who will also be providing guest speakers. The exclusive evening, now in its fifth year, will host Tourism Ministers, Senior Aides, private sector industry executives from around the world, and leading global travel trade publications.

Choosing only to work with iconic London venues, World Travel Market has previously hosted events at St Paul’s Cathedral, also a part of the Harbour & Jones Events venue collection. Instantly recognisable, Cutty Sark is one of the world’s most famous ships and the fastest and greatest of her time. She stands as a glorious monument to the age of sail and to all those who lost their lives in the merchant service. Situated on the shore of the mighty River Thames the ship provides commanding views over Canary Wharf and the City of London, making it an ideal historic venue.

Taking place at Excel London from 4-7 November, World Travel Market attracts 50,000 senior executives from the travel and tourism industry who will sign deals worth more than £2 billion.

Furthermore, WTM is worth more than £160m to the London economy through the discretionary spent of its delegates.

Harbour & Jones Events creates the perfect chemistry with new partner

Posted on: September 16th, 2013 by chandco

We’ve been announced as the new hospitality and events caterer at the Royal Society of Chemistry.  Taking over from 1st July, the contract is worth in excess of £1 million over the three-year term.

Burlington House, the Royal Society of Chemistry’s historic central London home, houses its offices, conferencing and dining facilities in the grand surroundings of The Chemistry Centre. It has now become a part of the prestigious Harbour & Jones Events venue collection, which also includes the Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering, RADA and the Academy of Medical Science.

Head chef Alan Sosa has been at the Royal Society of Chemistry since January having previously worked for high profile clients including EMI Records and the Houses of Parliament. Already making his mark with molecular gastronomy, Harbour & Jones Events has been working with Alan to refine the menu even further, creating a strong link between the society’s chemistry roots and molecular gastronomy.

Patrick Harbour, owner and director of Harbour & Jones Events said: “We are delighted to have started working with the Royal Society of Chemistry in their amazing building at Burlington House. As their name suggests we will be including molecular gastronomy and chemistry-influenced items on the menu. Another major part of our focus will be in enhancing the conference and working lunch menus to provide excellent value and consistency.”

The impressive Royal Society of Chemistry library continues the atmosphere of academic grandeur and houses over 20,000 books; it is also one of the most popular event spaces at the Chemistry Centre, attracting a host of high-profile clients including GlaxoSmithKline, Proctor & Gamble, BHP Billiton, BP, AstraZeneca and the London College of Fashion.

Renato Carvalho, Hospitality Manager at the Chemistry Centre, said: “This is the start of an exciting venture together and we look forward to welcoming our clientele who will experience the fabulous cuisine provided by Harbour & Jones Events.”

Harbour & Jones Events will be working on menus with new concepts including interactive ice cream parlours and tapas-style lunches, using bold British, Moroccan, Spanish and Italian-themed menus.

“One of our new concepts will be a sharing British picnic lunch for a more informal style of service during the remainder of the summer,” concluded Patrick.

Save the Orchards launch event at the RSA

Posted on: June 22nd, 2013 by chandco

We created an incredible pop-up orchard on Wednesday 19th June in the bare brick vaults of RSA House to launch our campaign to save declining orchards to the events industry. More than 190 event industry professionals including representatives from M&C Saatchi, Banks Sadler, DUAL Group, and Industri UK attended.

Giving event bookers the opportunity to sample our new Save the Orchards themed menu, we also launched a new interactive concept – an old fashioned juicer that guests can use to squeeze their own juice and enjoy the sweetness of freshly pressed apples. For every glass squeezed Harbour & Jones Events will be also donating 50p towards saving more trees in their quest to restore 300 orchard trees this year.

We’re in the fab 50!

Posted on: June 5th, 2013 by chandco

We’re delighted to tell you that we’ve  been named in Event magazine’s top 50 newcomers to the industry, which includes the most innovative agencies, organisers, suppliers and venues.

The list of businesses was whittled down from more than 100 nominations. The companies which made the list have been in business for less than five years, yet have already proven their drive to succeed by accumulating impressive client lists and working on a number of exciting and high-profile events. The Fab 50 Newcomers are Event’s ones to watch for the future.

We of course celebrated in the only way possible… with lots of cakes from our favourite bakery, Bageriet on Long Acre.
